Emily received her BA from Oberlin College in Greek, Latin, and Comparative Literature in 2022. During her time as an undergraduate, she developed an interest in trauma theory, especially through a feminist lens. Her undergraduate capstone and honors thesis examined the numerous ways in which female trauma is presented in Seneca’s Troades. As she has pursued her PhD, she has expanded her interests in trauma studies, feminist studies, and queer theory by working on a dissertation examining prophetic, supernatural, and “monstrous” women in Latin epic poetry. She has written and presented on topics such as Euripides’ Trojan Women, the Sybil in the Aeneid and the Metamorphoses, and the abortion poems of Ovid’s Amores.
